What is Z by HP AI Studio?
Z by HP AI studio is an Artificial Intelligence and Data Science software that connects people, data, tools, and compute to accelerate model development.
What are the key users benefits of Z by HP AI Studio?
Centralize: All of your data, tools, team members and project on one platform.
Collaborate: Easily access and share data, templates, and experiments with your team.
Accelerate: Standardize how your team works to spend more time creating models, AI tools, and visualizations, and less time on operational tasks.
AI Studio Access
Z by HP AI Studio is a download and install desktop application. Once the account is created by HP, HP will send an email to the user to activate their account. Once the account is activated, HP will send the user another email with a link to download the software.
Z by HP AI Studio must be downloaded and installed on the user’s local device. Z by HP AI Studio uses the same HP sign-on as other HP products and services.
Does Z by HP AI Studio run on both Windows and Linux?
Yes, we support both Windows and Linux. We are releasing Windows 11 first in our early access, Linux will be available later.
Which languages are available on Z by HP AI Studio?
Z by HP AI Studio will be available in English only at launch. To comply with Canadian requirements, the Terms of Service will also be available in French. Other languages may be available later in FY24.
Are users able to customize Z by HP AI Studio by adding their own features (plug-ins)?
As of today, we do not support customizing the software for specific features.
What level of technical expertise is required to use Z by HP AI Studio effectively?
The platform aims to make the integration of AI into workflows as seamless as possible, so the level of technical expertise required can be quite flexible; however, it is a tool to help IT configure and share environments with data scientists so they can create AI faster. Therefore, a level of technical understanding regarding data science and IT infrastructure is required.
How does Z by HP AI Studio handle large datasets? Is there a limit to the data size or volume that can be processed?
Z by HP AI Studio doesn't have a limit on the data size or volume that can be processed. It depends on the compute being used by the user.
Does Z by HP AI Studio require an additional sign-on?
Z by HP AI Studio uses the same HP sign-on as other HP products and services.
What kind of documentation is available to help users set-up and use Z by HP AI Studio?
Documentation to set-up and use Z by HP AI Studio will be available on our Z Docs website at a later stage. We will send an update once the documentation is available.
https://zdocs.datascience.hp.com/
What kind of support is available for users?
There are 3 levels of supports available for the users:
Level 1: Technical documentation will be available publicly on our website or through the software. https://zdocs.datascience.hp.com/
Level 2: The HP Data Science community (also linked on the software), allows users to help each other with basic issues/questions.
https://community.datascience.hp.com/
Level 3: A support ticket can be submitted through the software for 1:1 help/support.
How is the data stored on Z by HP AI Studio?
We do not store any data, we simply point to where the data exists. We rely on the users' data governance and systems. If they have the policies in place to access the data, they will be able to set up those connections.
Does each user/member need to download the software?
Yes, Z by HP AI Studio is a download and install application.
What is the difference between the Stack Manager and AI Studio?
The major difference is in the core architecture of AI Studio. AI Studio is designed to be container-based which makes it easier to deploy these workspaces in different environments so when users are done training locally they can easily deploy in the cloud. Unlike the Stack Manager, it also enables collaboration across users, within Z by HP AI Studio as the environments are defined when creating the workspaces.
Which flavor of Linux does Z by HP AI Studio support?
Z by HP AI Studio supports Ubuntu 22.04.
We are releasing Windows 11 first in our early access and Linux will be available at a later stage.
What NLP/LLM libraries are included with the Large Image?
Large images include Tensorflow and Pytorch, common packages for running Deep Learning experiments as well as
Scikit-learn for basic NLP. AI Studio does not have an NLP/LLM base image at this time; however, the current version allows users to create, activate, and install custom Conda environments for a project that persist, which allow users to define once and reuse on their system in the future.
An NLP/LLM image template is planned for MVP.
Can I run python scripts?
Yes. Currently AI Studio does not support native or batch script processing. But you can run scripts by converting .py files into Jupyter notebooks or by opening a terminal in JupyterLab to run them.
What data does AI Studio synchronize?
AI Studio synchronizes meta data across user devices to keep collaborators up to date. The three types of data synchronized are:
1. Data created and maintained by AIS. This includes projects, workspace definitions, data fabric connections, model serving instances. This meta data is stored in mongodb and replicated across all members of a team.
2. Data created by scripts run within AIS and Jupyter using Tensorboard or MLFlow.
3. Data within the shared subtree to allow teams to peer-to-peer share "other" data such as notebooks or code.
Online Vs. Offline Use
An offline user can download and install AI Studio to collaborate with fellow users on a project with defined workspaces as along as all users meet the requirements of the workspace configurations. While online, users can log in, connect to local or S3 data stores, sync meta data, configurations, and access data across projects and collaborators, click to access eDocs or the Community Forum, and invite collaborators. Account creation, authentication, and sign-in is automated whether invited by HP or by an account admin.
Data Set Size Limitations
Z by HP AI Studio doesn't have a limit on the data size or volume that can be processed. The only limitation of managing data within AI Studio is the computing power of the local devices processing the data
User Synchronization
Application data (projects, workspaces, datasets) are synchronized with a cloud database whenever there is internet connectivity. Files (shared files, mlflow artifacts, tensorboard logs, etc), are synchronized peer-to-peer with end-to-end encryption.
AI Studio uses a cloud relay in the situations where a direct peer-topeer connection cannot be established (but the encryption is still between the peers themselves, cloud only sees ciphertext).
Shared Workstations/Compute
Z by HP AI Studio cannot be used to share workstations/compute. AI Studio ensures that all Data Scientists and teams are using the same tools, environments and data to ensure standardization across projects and teams.
However, teams can view connected compute to identify team resources and who to reach out to if they want to request compute access. If a user downloads AI Studio on multiple machines, the 'Compute' list will show all devices for that user on the account.
Pre-deployment Model Storage
HP suggests the use of mlflow for storing artifacts from experiments and registering models. These files are stored locally and synchronized between users.
Language Settings
Z by HP AI Studio will be available in English only at launch. To comply with Canadian requirements, the Terms of Service will also be available in French. Other languages may be available later in FY24.
